Sculpture: Charles Eaves - Dr. Apple - Kentville Nova Scotia Canada

February 23, 2018 - Photography of work by Sculptor Artist: Ruth Abernethy -- Dr. Apple, was unveiled in 2015, in Kentville Nova Scotia.. Charles Eaves, a.k.a. Dr. Apple, worked tirelessly to find storage methods for fruit, including the apple, which was sent overseas by the millions during the First World War. Involved with fruit production in the Valley, Eaves became well known and was awardedan honorary doctorate by the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and Dalhousie University.

After much research on Dr. Apple, Abernethy came to learn about his sense of humour and his sense of adventure, and incorporated that into the design of the scientist standing in his lab coat with a test apple.

“The characteristic twinkle in Charles’ eye was caught with the particular structure of my sculpted eyes combined with a very precise tension shaped around his mouth,” writes sculptor, Ruth Abernethy
— in Kentville, Nova Scotia.
