Premiers Doug Ford, Blaine Higgs, Scott Moe, & Jason Kenney on nuclear power deal - SMRs small modular reactors

April 14, 2021

In a virtual news conference, premiers Doug Ford (Ontario), Blaine Higgs (New Brunswick), Scott Moe (Saskatchewan), and Jason Kenney (Alberta) sign a memorandum of understanding to explore small modular reactors (SMRs) as a clean energy alternative and a way to fight climate change. They also respond to questions about their provinces' COVID-19 response and vaccine rollout. On December 1, 2019, Ontario, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick announced a collaboration on the development of SMRs to provide carbon-free energy while unlocking their economic potential. Alberta announced in August 2020 that it would enter into the agreement to help diversify its energy sector. (April 14, 2021)
