Victoria Nuland expressed her disdain for The European Union's role in attempting to broker a peaceful solution to Ukraine's political standoff between president Yanukoych and CIA astro turf antigovernment protests. She complained the operation had already cost $5 Billion US dollars. Nuland wanted the UN backed by NATO do the job.

In a leaked telephone call of February 2014 between Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and the US Ambassador to Kyiv Geoffrey Pyatt her plan was revealed.

"[It] would be great, I think, to help glue this thing and have the UN help glue it, and you know f*** the EU!" she said.
