Federal ministers hold a media availability on Parliament Hill to outline updated carbon price payments to the provinces for 2024-2025. Taking part are Seamus O’Regan (labour), Steven Guilbeault (environment), Marie-Claude Bibeau (national revenue) and Gudie Hutchings (rural economic development).
Previously known as the Climate Action Incentive Payment, the ministers announce the newly rebranded quarterly payment program as the Canada Carbon Rebate. Responding to questions from reporters, Guilbeault comments on his recent remarks about the government's decision to stop funding new roads. He also discusses calls from First Nations leaders and citizens' groups for the federal government to oppose a planned nuclear waste disposal site in Chalk River, Ont.
