I Bought an Abandoned House on a Remote Island – Installing a Propane Shower
Skote Outdoors Newfoundland
Jun 29, 2025
Kelly gets right to work, pulling out an old wall and countertop, then laying down some temporary floors and sealing things up with a fresh new wall. It’s not permanent, but it’s a big step forward in getting a real bathroom up and running. From there, we roll right into the next challenge — trying to install an off-grid propane shower without the right fittings. It’s a bit of a hillbilly operation, and after a whole lot of trial and error... we still don’t get it working. That’s island life sometimes — move on, regroup, and keep going.
Out with the animals, we realize our current setup isn’t cutting it. The goats and sheep need more space, so we start building a second pasture to kick off proper rotational grazing. Our friend Cameron comes out to lend a hand with the fencing, and we start putting together a system that’ll give the land time to recover and the animals room to roam.
We finish the week on a different note — Kelly loads up her concert gear in a cart behind the trike and hauls it across the island to Gord’s patio, where she sets up for her first live show of the season. She ends the day with a little music rehearsal and a quiet moment to share it with us.
Thanks for following along — through every project, misstep, and milestone. It all adds up to something good.
