"Established in 1976, the $60,000 award is a collaboration between Amazon Canada and The Walrus recognizing the best debut Canadian novel of the year. The remaining finalists will each receive $6,000. '

Claytor, based in Sackville, N.B., is recognized for his graphic novel Nowhere.

In Nowhere, Joel is a 12-year-old who has just arrived in Beauséjour, N.B., the latest in a string of nondescript small towns. Beauséjour is plagued nightly by depressed clowns, zombies and vampires. When Joel's parents go missing, he and his new friend, Charlie, have to look for a way to stay safe from the madness going on outside."

Claytor is also the author of the memoir Take The Long Way Home."

Jon Claytor is one of the co-founders of "Sappyfest" with ex-wife Julie Doiron and Paul Henderson, currently the director of Struts Gallery [ STAFF & BOARD | Struts Gallery ] and at one time Henderson and Claytor ran a pub called "Thunder & Lightning" on Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B.

Henderson helped me out with some poster work years ago; grateful for his talents.. cost me $50.

Claytor must certainly be feeling the love in Mount Allison University town and beyond with this nomination.... its a place where they also fly the U.N. flag.. just sayin'
