I wasn't looking for patterns. I was just comparing old photographs to war damage maps. But what I found changed everything I thought I knew about twentieth-century history. The same buildings. The same architectural style. The same impossible proportions. Destroyed in city after city, war after war, decade after decade. Dresden. Warsaw. Cologne. Rotterdam. Different armies. Different wars. Same targets. They call it coincidence. They call it military strategy. They call it collateral damage. But when you overlay the maps—when you actually look at what burned and what didn't—the "coincidences" start looking like something else entirely. Something nobody wants to talk about.
