" Fitch first met Trenholme Counsell at a literacy golf tournament. At the time, Fitch was poet laureate and that morning, she was told she was going to be with the lieutenant-governor at the time, Trenholme Counsell, who held the role from 1997 to 2003.
Fitch remembers thinking she had to be "proper" and didn't know how to best address the lieutenant-governor.
"We got in a golf cart and the first thing she said to me… was, 'It's you, I gave your book to the Queen,'" Fitch recalled.
"I went, 'What?' She said, 'I gave If I Were the Moon to the Queen.'
"Within 10 minutes, we were in that golf cart bopping around and laughing so hard you wouldn't believe it." "
