As a "comes from away" to Nova Scotia's waterfront city Halifax in 2007 I have good and wholesome memories of the city during my time there.. its scruffy, gritty, historic feel is enduring...
but... after leaving and relocating to Sackville New Brunswick in October 2010 I look to Halifax and see a more confused and disharmonious culture...
why? What causes this "discord"? Are there too many universities is a small area creating too many "change agents" and malcontent "social justice" harpies? Yeah, there are. Why does Big Tech censor my free speech so much online? Why erase and cancel my efforts? Perhaps unifiers are not welcome or wanted in the Brave New World... ?
"The Edward Cornwallis statue was a 1931 bronze monument in Halifax, Nova Scotia, removed on 31 January 2018 and placed in storage due to controversy over Cornwallis’s 1749 scalping proclamation and its impact on the Mi’kmaq people. It originally stood in what is now Peace and Friendship Park, renamed in 2021.
Overview
The statue commemorated Edward Cornwallis, the British governor who founded Halifax in 1749. It stood atop a granite pedestal and was intended to celebrate British settlement and promote tourism."

Want to see history preserved? Perhaps go to Greece -- they are a people who know who they are .. and surround themselves in celebrated history and architecture from the past.. Halifax is still a great little growing Canadian city but unfortunately this chapter with the statue removal has marked a turning point that highlights to me a demoralization and a decaying of the pride of a civilization .. something to endure... that's leaving a little sad shadow over an Eastcoast civilization that has nothing to apologize for... Halifax welcomes the world and the growing population and shifting demographics reflect that.. even the expression "comes from away" is seen to be distasteful despite its unique and charming use by the locals who were born and raised there they are a people being asked to change, by change agents. It is unfortunate.
