People's Party of Canada :: Maxime Bernier, leader/founder

Maxime Bernier {Facebook} sez:

Coyne: “The climate farce continues. To recap: Canada is nowhere near to achieving the reductions in greenhouse gas emissions it agreed to three years ago in Paris, having blown through a series of more ambitious earlier commitments.”
Let’s end the farce and ditch Paris. The People's Party of Canada does not believe in subordinating Canada’s interests to unrealistic international treaties whose goal is to redistribute wealth to other countries while making our economy less competitive, and for no concrete results at all.
Coyne: “Of course, there is one alternative that is cheaper than a carbon tax: doing nothing. If that is in fact what the critics have in mind, they should say so.”
The provinces already experimenting with various ways to reduce GHGs. We’ll see what is most effective and least detrimental to economy. But there’s no reason to impose another layer of government intervention on an already costly series of measures whose effectiveness has yet to be demonstrated.
Transition to other sources of energy is already taking place, as companies respond to consumer demand. The federal government should help it along by reducing taxes, barriers to innovation and competition, and ineffective and costly regulation. THAT is a real market-based policy.
