Ricardo Duchesne is a former professor from the University of New Brunswick. He is a historical sociologist with main interests in Western civilization and multiculturalism. As an author he is known for books such as: The Uniqueness of Western Civilization. Studies in Critical Sciences. (2011) and Canada In Decay: Mass Immigaration, Diversity, and the Ethnocide of Euro-Canadians. Dr. Duchesne has had his own quarrels with the stifling of academic freedom, such as his colleagues levying accusations against his views and knowledge with the intent to suppress them.
Mark Hecht is an instructor in Political Geography and Conservation Biogeography at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. He was given the MRU Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014. On September 6, 2019, Mark Hecht wrote an opinion piece in the Vancouver Sun. The piece was labelled as anti-immigrant sentiment and was quickly removed from the Vancouver Sun along with an apology from the paper for ever having featured it.
At this event, Dr. Duchesne and Instructor Mark Hecht will be discussing immigration and its impact on culture and subsequent effect on academic freedom and freedom of expression. Dr. Duchesne will approach this discussion from the angle of mass immigration and its ramifications on culture to a more narrowed conversation about immigration in Canada, and what it contributes to a modern nation state.
There will be a 1-hour period for questions and discussions with the audience. The event will take place in the University of British Columbia; more details regarding the venue will be released soon.
This event is sponsored by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms and the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship.
The Students for Freedom of Expression neither endorse nor condemn the views of Dr. Duchesne and Prof. Hecht.
