Statement To Miramichi-Grand Lake:
I have been a public figure since 2008, when I was elected Councillor of the Village of Blackville.
Now
entering the 18th year of my political career, spanning three different branches of government, I have come to realize the toll it's taken on my family and my health. Therefore, I will not be re-offering in the upcoming election.
I want you to know I have given my very best to local causes and I am forever grateful for all your support over the years from Municipal through Provincial to Federal politics.
I sincerely hope to have made a real, impactful difference in our community.
Being a politician is incredibly hard for your family these days. I want to thank my wife Shannon, and our children River, Roman, Leia and Meadow, for their support, and now look forward to spending more time with my family.

“Jake Stewart has dedicated his life to public service. Born and raised in Blackville, New Brunswick, Jake spent much of his summers fishing along the main Southwest Miramichi River and the Bartholomew River.
“He started his public service journey as a Village of Blackville municipal councillor. Following that, he was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in 2010. He has won re-election 4 times since then and represents the electoral district of Southwest Miramichi Bay du Vin. Jake is the first ever Blackville resident to represent the region and has held various roles in the provincial government, including the first ever dedicated Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.
“Jake has volunteered his musical talents to various causes, including the local food bank, cancer and diabetes research. In 2011, he released his first studio album.
